Jamaica’s Weir wins 200m at Adidas Grand Prix

NEW YORK — Jamaica’s Warren Weir won the 200 metres in a world-best 19.82 seconds and countryman Nesta Carter took the 100 in 10.09 on Saturday in the Adidas Grand Prix at Randall’s Island.

Americans Tori Bowie and Tianna Bartoletta swept the women’s sprints in the Diamond League event. Bowie took the 100 in 11.07, and Bartoletta won the 200 in 22.68.

Ukraine’s Bohdan Bondarenko and Qatar’s Mutaz Essa Barshim each cleared 2.42 metres in the high jump to break the Diamond League record and set a world best. Bondarenko won the event based on fewer failed attempts.

Puerto Rico’s Javier Culson won the men’s 400 hurdles in 48.03, the best time in the world this year, and American LaShawn Merritt took the 400 in a meet-record 44.19.
