WARSAW, Poland — Double Olympic ski jump champion Kamil Stoch of Poland has undergone ankle surgery and will miss the World Cup in Norway this weekend.

Doctor Aleksander Winiarski said on Thursday that a surgeon removed a small bone outgrowth in Stoch’s left ankle that was causing him too much pain to jump with confidence.

Stoch is to be discharged from the hospital in Nowy Targ, in southern Poland, on Friday, and Winiarski said he will be sidelined for two weeks.

Stoch, who won his first World Cup overall title last season, to go with the normal and large hill golds from Sochi, hurt the ankle before the opening World Cup of the season last month in Klingenthal, and didn’t compete. He felt pain in training again on Wednesday.
