STOCKHOLM — Orlando Ortega of Cuba beat a strong field to win the men’s 110-meter hurdles at the Diamond League meeting in Stockholm, as world champion David Oliver had to settle for third on Thursday ahead of his title defence in Beijing next month.

Ortega clocked 13.18 seconds in a race featuring four of the five top runners of the season, to beat Sergey Shubenkov of Russia by 0.04 seconds.

Oliver was another 0.02 seconds behind in third, but the American maintained his lead in the overall Diamond Race standings.

Jason Richardson, the 2011 world champion, was fourth.

With the track still wet from earlier rains, the time was well off Ortega’s season best of 12.94.
