AUCKLAND, New Zealand — Scottish sports administrator Louise Martin is expected to mount a strong challenge to the incumbent Prince Imran of Malaysia when the Commonwealth Games Federation elects its president at its general assembly on Wednesday.

Prince Imran has been president since 2011 when he took over from Jamaica’s Mike Fennell and was thought to have a strong hold on the position.

But Martin, currently the Federation’s honorary secretary, has steadily gained support since the release of a manifesto in which she pledged to attract new sponsors, to put extra cash into the 71 national Commonwealth Games Associations.

Martin was the vice-chair of the organizing committee of the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games and heads SportScotland.
