Whistler to host bobsled, skeleton 2019 worlds

GHENT, Belgium — Whistler, B.C., will host the world bobsled and skeleton championship in 2019.

The announcement was made following a vote held during the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation’s annual congress on Tuesday. Whistler beat out bids from Altenberg, Germany and St. Moritz, Switzerland, edging Altenberg 20-19 on the second ballot.

The Whistler Sliding Centre hosted bobsled, skeleton and luge events at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.

The facility also hosted the luge world championships in 2013.
