OHL roundup: Betz, Strome shine for Otters

Connor McDavid was named captain of the Otters prior to the game, then had one assist in the 7-1 pounding of the Saginaw Spirit.

SAGINAW, Mich. — Nick Betz had two goals and two assists and Dylan Strome scored once and set up three more as the Erie Otters defeated the host Saginaw Spirit 7-1 on Thursday in Ontario Hockey League action.

Mason Marchment had a goal and two assists for the Otters (1-0-0) while Alex DeBrincat, Patrick Fellows and Darren Raddysh each scored once. Connor McDavid chipped in with a single assist.

Tye Felhaber scored the lone goal for the Spirit (0-1-0).

Erie’s Devin Williams made 29 saves for the win while Saginaw’s Nikita Serebryakov turned aside 39 of 46 shots in a losing cause.

ATTACK 6 RANGERS 1

OWEN SOUND, Ont. — Holden Cook had a pair of goals and Jack Flinn stopped 30 shots as the Attack toppled Kitchener.

Daniel Milne scored once and set up two more for Owen Sound (1-0-0), which went 4 for 7 on the power play, while Petrus Palmu, Zach Nastasiuk and Damir Sharipzyanov added a goal apiece.

Scott Teskey scored at 19:09 of the third period for the Rangers (0-1-0) to break up Flinn’s shutout bid. Matthew Greenfield made 30 saves in defeat.
