OTTAWA — Susan Auch has been named as president of Speed Skating Canada.

The three-time Olympic medallist had been serving as interim president following the March 22 resignation of Jim Allison for personal reasons. She was elected as president at Speed Skating Canada’s annual general meeting last weekend in Ottawa.

Auch has been a member of Speed Skating Canada’s board of directors since 2008, which included a term as vice president over the past two years.

"I am honoured that the Speed Skating Canada membership has entrusted this position to me and I would like to say thank you to everyone," Auch said in a statement.

"In our community, it is everyone’s role to make sure speed skating is continuously improving and growing in the country in all areas: athletes, officials and clubs development, as well as having a safe sport and financially healthy organization."

Auch won Olympic silver in the women’s 500-metre long-track event in 1994 and 1998, and was part of the bronze-medal winning women’s short-track relay team at the 1988 Calgary Games.

She was inducted into the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame in 2010 and Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame in 2015.
