Twitter Reaction: Japan’s PM steals show at Closing Ceremony

Check out a wrap up of the final day of the Rio Olympics.

After 16 days of jam-packed athletics action, the Rio Olympics have come to a close. And they’ve come to a close in style.

The closing ceremony was a party fit for Rio de Janeiro, and after exceeding expectations — bringing home 22 medals, including four gold — Team Canada had plenty to celebrate.

The Canucks made the most of Sunday night’s festivities, with rising teenage star Penny Oleksiak leading the way as the country’s flag bearer.

Here are some of the Canadian highlights:

Plus, more oiled-up Tonga flag bearer Pita Taufatofua for good measure.

But the highlight of the ceremony came when Rio passed the torch to Japan ahead of the 2020 Games, and prime minister Shinzo Abe made a super entrance.

Needless to say, the Twitterverse had some fun with the video-game themed arrival at the Maracanã.
