If you love baseball news, Twitter and procrastinating at your 9-to-5 office job, then your work-place productivity likely took a serious beating on Tuesday.

It began early yesterday morning with official confirmation from the Blue Jays that they had signed Brandon Morrow to a three-year, $20-million extension.

Following a late morning press conference and a round of radio and TV interviews, the Twittersphere blew up just after 2:30 p.m. with a tweet alleging that Prince Fielder had signed with... the Washington Nationals.

Part Celebrity Apprentice, part Survivor, part Cheaters at times, the battle for control of the Los Angeles Dodgers has now kicked into high gear.

Depending on who you read, there could be up to 20 groups submitting bids for the iconic franchise, its media rights and other related assets by the Jan. 23 deadline. The winning bid is expected to fetch somewhere between $1.4 billion and $2 billion, easily eclipsing the previous record sale price for an MLB team when the Chicago Cubs were sold for $845 million in 2009.

The Dodgers have been under MLB control since last April when current owner Frank McCourt placed the team under bankruptcy protection during his divorce from now ex-wife Jamie.

John Axford is well aware that his growing popularity likely has as much to do with his award-winning moustache, as it does with his NL-high 46 saves in 2011.

So perhaps that's why during a recent interview the 28-year-old Milwaukee Brewers closer revealed that when the season ended, his powerful right arm wasn't the only the part of his body he shut down for the winter.

"Every off-season I shave (my moustache) off," Axford told Forbes.com. "Just to remind it who's boss."

Hall of Fame voting results will be announced Monday afternoon and all signs point to a lonely class of 2012.

The official results will be revealed at 3 p.m. ET on the Baseball Writer's Assocation of America's official Twitter account.

Former Cincinnatti Reds shortstop Barry Larkin, the 1995 NL MVP, is believed to be the most likely candidate to gain entry after recieving 62.1 per cent in 2011.
