MARTIN NASH JOINS ROGERS SPORTSNET FOR VANCOUVER WHITECAPS FC BROADCASTS

Sportsnet will produce 21 Whitecaps matches this season

TORONTO (March 17, 2011) – Former Vancouver Whitecap Martin Nash has made the move from the playing field to the broadcast booth as Rogers Sportsnet’s new analyst for Vancouver Whitecaps FC.

“Martin’s passion for the game makes him a natural fit for Sportsnet’s coverage of Vancouver Whitecaps FC,” said Rob Corte, Vice-President, Production, Rogers Sportsnet. “His career was marked by many triumphs on the field and viewers can expect that same success in the broadcast booth.”

Nash joins Sportsnet’s Craig MacEwen, who will handle the play-by-play on 21 Sportsnet produced Whitecap matches, which is more than any other Canadian broadcaster. The Sportsnet schedule kicks off with the club’s first Major League Soccer road match on Saturday, March 26 at 1 p.m. (PT) on Sportsnet ONE against Philadelphia Union at PPL Park.

Nash brings 15 years of professional playing experience in both the A-League and United Soccer League where he won four league championships, including two with Whitecaps FC in 2006 and 2008. Nash finished his career with Vancouver last year and scored a career 18 goals with the club from 2004 to 2010. The native of Regina, Saskatchewan also enjoyed representing Canada’s national team for 13 years, highlighted by appearances such as the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
