2011 CIS MEN’S HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIP IS BACK ON ROGERS SPORTSNET
Sportsnet airing three games this weekend including the championship final on March 27
TORONTO (March 24, 2011) – The Alberta Golden Bears continue their quest for a 14th CIS Men’s Hockey championship when they meet the McGill Redmen in the round-robin on Saturday, March 26 at 1:30 p.m. (ET)/10:30 a.m. (PT) on the Rogers Sportsnet East, Ontario, West and Pacific channels.
Later that day, the other round-robin game between the Western Ontario Mustangs and New Brunswick Varsity Reds/Calgary Dinos will air on the Sportsnet East, Ontario, West and Pacific channels at 6:30 p.m. (ET)/3:30 p.m. (PT).
In addition, Sportsnet will feature the University Cup Final on Sunday, March 27 at 7 p.m. (ET)/5 p.m. (MT) on the Sportsnet East, Ontario and West channels. ** Please note, Sportsnet Pacific will carry Sunday’s broadcast on running delay at 5 p.m. (PT).
Peter Loubardias provides the play-by-play from the Aitken University Centre in Fredericton, NB, while Sam Cosentino handles the analysis. Sportsnet Connected reporter Louis Jean is the host.
The Golden Bears enter the tournament as the No. 3-ranked team and hold the most University Cup records including all-time titles (13) and championship appearances (35th in 2011).
New Brunswick is hosting the tourney and is the No.1-ranked team. Joining the Reds in the round-robin portion is No. 2-McGill, No. 4-Western, No. 5- St. Francis Xavier X-Men and No. 6-Calgary. McGill and Alberta are the only schools to return from last year’s championship in Thunder Bay, where the Bears reached the title match for a record 18th time. The Saint Mary’s Huskies won the cup last year. Alberta was the last team to win the championship as both the No. 1 seed and tournament host back in 2006.
