TFC LOOKS TO DEFEND NUTRILITE CANADIAN TITLE IN CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL AGAINST VANCOUVER

Toronto and Vancouver played to 1-1 draw in first leg of the Championship Final

TORONTO (June 28, 2011) – Defending champion Toronto FC is seeking its third straight title when they host Vancouver Whitecaps FC in the second leg of the 2011 Nutrilite Canadian Championship Final on Saturday, July 2 at 12:30 p.m. (ET)/9:30 a.m. (PT) on Rogers Sportsnet ONE. The match will also be available in high definition and streamed live on sportsnet.ca.

Gerry Dobson will have the play-by-play from BMO Field in Toronto while former Canadian soccer keeper Craig Forrest provides the analysis. Arash Madani is host.

The 2011 Nutrilite Canadian Championship featured four teams, including Edmonton and Montreal, for the first time in the tournament’s four-year history resulting in a two-leg two semi-final series followed by a two-leg championship final replacing a round-robin system. The winner of the championship will represent Canada in the 2011-2012 CONCACAF Champions League.

Toronto can secure their third straight championship and the Voyageurs Cup with a win over Vancouver. Toronto finished in a 1-1 draw with Vancouver in the first leg of the Nutrilite Canadian Championship Final. TFC captain Maicon Santos scored his tournament leading third goal in the draw. The Vancouver goal was the first TFC has allowed in six-straight Nutrilite matches dating back to last year.

Vancouver will now need to score at least one goal at BMO Field to win the tie. Whitecaps striker Eric Hassli scored in the first leg match against Toronto. Vancouver is looking to lock up their first ever Nutrilite Canadian Championship title.
