Rogers Sportsnet is the Only Network in Canada with Saturday’s UFC 134 Preliminaries in HD

TORONTO (August 24, 2011) – Rogers Sportsnet is the only network in Canada with the UFC 134 preliminary fights in High Definition on Saturday, Aug. 27 at 8:00 p.m. (ET)/5:00 p.m. (PT) on Rogers Sportsnet East, Sportsnet Ontario, Sportsnet West and Sportsnet Pacific.

The card for the preliminaries includes Brazilian lightweight Thiago Tavares against Spencer Fisher, while fellow countryman Rousimar Palhares faces Dan Miller in a middleweight battle. Tavares is coming off a second-round loss to Shane Roller at UFC Live in March 2011 while Palhares submitted Dave Branch in the second round at the same event.

The main event of UFC 134 is a middleweight championship fight between current belt holder Anderson Silva and Yushin Okami. The two had previously met in Hawaii’s Rumble on the Rock promotion in 2006. In that fight Silva was disqualified for delivering an illegal hit to Okami. Silva has since gone on to become the UFC middleweight champion, successfully defending his belt a record eight times.

Sportsnet Connected will also provide coverage leading up to UFC 134 with nightly reports hosted by “Showdown” Joe Ferraro during the evening and prime editions.
