Junior Hockey Takes Centre-Ice in This Week’s Can’t Miss Events on Sportsnet

TORONTO (Nov. 7, 2011) – Sportsnet is your premiere destination for junior hockey coverage with the kick-off of Friday Night Hockey and the return of the Subway Super Series highlighting this week’s Can’t Miss Events.

Friday Night Hockey – CHL game of the week

The Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors host the Barrie Colts in the inaugural broadcast of Sportsnet’s Friday Night Hockey at 7 p.m. (ET)/4 p.m. (PT) on Sportsnet ONE, Sportsnet Ontario and Pacific channels. Every Friday night of the 2011-2012 regular season, Sportsnet will televise a CHL game in high definition.

Friday Night Hockey broadcasts will be handled by play-by-play announcer RJ Broadhead, analyst Sam Cosentino, and host Rob Faulds. HOCKEY CENTRAL host Daren Millard and analyst Damien Cox will be in studio to preview the game.

On sportsnet.ca, columnist Patrick King will take a deeper look each week at the Ontario Hockey League, Western Hockey League and Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Cosentino will also appear on the website with a weekly blog and discuss CHL news on Skype chats with fans.

On radio, Sportsnet 590 The FAN and Sportsnet 960 The FAN will provide regular updates on game results and stats.

Subway Super Series

The Subway Super Series returns to Sportsnet for the annual six-game exhibition tournament between the Russian juniors squad and three all-star teams representing the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, the Ontario Hockey League, and the Western Hockey League.

Faulds hosts the series, with Broadhead handling the play-by-play and Cosentino as the analyst.

International Soccer

In anticipation of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Rio, Sportsnet will be broadcasting a number of international friendly match-ups as teams prepare for upcoming qualifiers.

Soccer Central kicks off the coverage with a pre-game show hosted Brad Fay and Craig Forrest on Friday, Nov. 11 @ 2 p.m. on Sportsnet East, Ontario, West and Pacific.

In addition, Gerry Dobson will be in St. Kitts reporting for Connected when Canada takes on St. Kitts and Nevis in a FIFA World Cup qualifying match. Online, sportsnet.ca columnist John Molinaro will provide up-to-the-minute reports and analysis on team Canada’s progress.

UFC: Valasquez vs. Dos Santos

The UFC heavyweight belt is up for grabs as current champion Cain Valesquez battles Junior dos Santos at UFC: Valesquez vs. Dos Santos on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 9 p.m. (ET)/6 p.m. (PT) on Sportsnet East, Ontario, West and Pacific channels.

The fight will be the first title defense for Valezquez (9-0) since he defeated Brock Lesnar in October 2010. It will be Valezquez's first fight as he suffered a torn rotator cuff in that fight with Lesnar. Dos Santos (13-1) is coming off a win over Shane Carwin in June 2011. He has not lost a fight since joining the UFC in October 2008.

Sportsnet Connected will also provide coverage leading up to the fight with nightly reports hosted by “Showdown” Joe Ferraro from Los Angeles during the evening and prime editions starting on Wednesday, Nov. 9. For even more coverage, sportsnet.ca will have live streaming of the pre-fight press conference on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 4 p.m. (ET)/1 p.m. (PT) and the UFC 137 official weigh-in on Friday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. (ET)/4 p.m. (PT).

Monday’s edition of UFC Central, hosted by Ferraro, will feature all the highlights and post-fight reactions from UFC: Valesquez vs. Dos Santos.

BNP Paribas Masters

World’s number one-ranked male tennis player Novak Djokovic headlines the field in this year's BNP Paribas Masters as Sportsnet ONE serves up quarter-final coverage on Friday, Nov. 11 at 9:30 a.m. (ET)/6:30 a.m. (PT).

The Paribas Masters is the ninth and final ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament of the year. Djokovic has won five of these 1000 series tournies this year, while Andy Murray has won two and Rafael Nadal the other one.

Sportsnet ONE’s BNP Paribas Masters coverage continues with the semifinals on Saturday, Nov. 12 @ 8 a.m. (ET)/5 a.m. (PT) and the finals on Sunday, Nov. 13 @ 9 a.m. (ET)/6 a.m. (PT).
