Sportsnet Hits Steeltown for Live Coverage of the 2012 AHL Outdoor Classic Presented by Molson Canadian and Boston Pizza

TORONTO, ON (January 19, 2012) – Sportsnet braces the big chill of historic Ivor Wynne Stadium in Hamilton to bring hockey fans unparalleled coverage of the 2012 AHL Outdoor Classic presented by Molson Canadian and Boston Pizza, featuring the Toronto Marlies versus the Hamilton Bulldogs. Coverage gets underway on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 12:30 p.m. ET/9:30 a.m. PT on Sportsnet East, Ontario, West and Pacific.
Prior to puck drop, HOCKEY CENTRAL analysts Nick Kypreos and Doug MacLean cozy up with host Daren Millard in the Ivor Wynne end zone to set the scene for the Steeltown Showdown. Sportsnet’s pre-game programming will feature the following:
- Christine Simpson’s sit-down interview with Hockey Hall of Fame legendary goaltender Johnny Bower
- Interview with City of Hamilton Mayor Bob Bratina
- Dressing room access to both the Bulldogs and Marlies for pre-game speeches
- In-depth analysis of both teams
Play-by-play man Kevin Quinn and analyst Louie DeBrusk brave the elements of the outdoor broadcast booth, while roving reporter Christine Simpson speaks with fans as well as Leafs and Canadiens alumni around the stadium. Gene Principe goes between the benches for live in-game reports and laces up his skates for on-ice interviews with players and coaches.
Sportsnet also brings fans as close to the action as possible with special broadcast features including the utilization of a wireless handheld camera to capture compelling moments on the outdoor rink during stoppages in play. Viewers will also be provided with a look at the storied history behind Ivor Wynne Stadium and intermission interviews with Leafs GM Brian Burke and AHL President and CEO David Andrews.
