Toronto Blue Jays fans were hit with some deja vu late last week as their team welcomed back a former pitcher into the fold.
The club signed 33-year-old J.A. Happ to a three-year, $36-million deal, marking the second highest free agency signing for a pitcher in team history, behind A.J. Burnett in 2005. The veteran left-hander was a mediocre 19-20 in parts of three seasons in Toronto before being traded to Seattle in 2014 for Canadian outfielder Michael Saunders. After being traded to Pittsburgh in July of 2015, Happ resurrected his career, going 7-2 with a 1.85 ERA.
All that aside, when news broke that the Blue Jays had signed a free agent pitcher to a three-year deal, fans were hoping it would be for someone by the name of David Price. That is why this week’s Match Game One-Up challenge is, “My reaction to the Jays J.A. Happ signing was _____.”
