The silence coming from Toronto FC surrounding the acquisition of Canadian Dwayne DeRosario has been deafening.

There will likely be no unveiling until the new year; and so far no comments from the new player himself. That automatically raises the suspicion of some media types with inquiring minds, yours truly included. Why wouldn't De Rosario be in Toronto right now, donning Toronto red for the much-anticipated photo op? Adding to the confusion is the fact that the boss, Paul Beirne is on vacation this week and the coaching staff had already gone home for Christmas before the deal was done. It would appear that De Rosario himself is in Houston and perhaps he'll spend Christmas there as well.

Maybe this explains it all?

The one and apparently only guy who is still around town is Director of Soccer Mo Johnston. He laughed when I wondered what was up. He assured me that all is well and when everyone is back after the holidays, there will be what everyone connected with the club likes to call a big splash. De Rosario still has two years remaining on his contract; but personally I think they should have put Mo in a Santa Claus outfit, called the media together, and had De Ro jump out of a gift-wrapped box.

However, Mo is more like one of Santa's elves these days, working hard to bring more presents to the TFC faithful. He was too busy to spend much time chatting Wednesday morning as he was working on another big deal. Who it is, and when it will happen is anybody's guess.

But something is up.
