The wheels are in motion. Julian de Guzman is in Toronto.
Coincidentally his plane from Europe touched down at Toronto Pearson International Airport Sunday afternoon at the same time Toronto FC was returning from Denver.
There is no signed deal yet. There are still some details to be worked out but this thing is getting closer each day. It's still unclear how Toronto will clear the cap space to make it happen. But sometimes these things can happen quickly.
Just how much of an impact he'll have on the team for the rest of the season is debatable. It was a depressed and beaten bunch that flew back from Colorado after Saturday's loss.
Something's gotta give. We'll keep you posted.
On another front, I reported that the U.S. Men's national team released Colorado striker Conor Casey at the last minute so he could suit up against Toronto. That's not actually true thanks to some Colorado deception.
We asked the coaching staff at training Friday how they would cope with the loss of Casey. They responded as if they would have to deal without him. What they didn't tell us is that he never left Denver to join the World Cup team in the first place. He remained in town to have two impacted wisdom teeth looked after and was ready to roll against Toronto Saturday night, scoring the game's only goal.
So we were all caught off-guard after a pack of lies packaged up nicely with ribbons and bows and sold to the media and TFC.
