Rain, rain, go away

Julian de Guzman will likely be a gametime decision on Wednesday.Miserable day on the West Coast in advance of Wednesday night's critical encounter between Toronto and Vancouver.
If TFC wins, the Nutrilite Canadian Championship is theirs for the second year running. If not, the Whitecaps will live to fight another day.
The home team trained at their usual facility up at Simon Fraser University in pouring rain. The 'Caps are in a much better frame of mind these days after an up-tempo, encouraging draw against Montreal in the league on the weekend.
Head coach Teitur Thordardson made a few changes to the line-up for that game and feels it made a difference.
The Reds trained on a grass pitch in the driving rain as well. Hard to say what kind of line-up head coach Preki will throw out there. History tells us he's not afraid to make changes. Preki continues to preach the gospel that he needs all his players ready when called upon.
The only injury worry for Toronto is Julian de Guzman who was a late scratch for the Los Angeles game and is still bothered by a hamstring problem.
The weather forecast for Wednesday is for more rain. There is even the hint of a thundershower which would not be good. It's a rare happening here and hopefully won't be an issue.
Vancouver plays Rochester here on the weekend and then embark on a road trip which will take them to Montreal, Rochester and then Toronto before returning home.
The Reds head straight to Toronto Thursday for a quick turnaround to face New England at BMO Field and an early kickoff Saturday afternoon. Game time has been moved up to 1pm to help accomodate the UEFA Champions League final. The game between Inter and Bayern Munich starts at 2:45 and can be seen live on Rogers Sportsnet with the pre-game show getting under way at 2:30.

Twenty-five years in this business means if you're lucky enough to cross paths with the Olympics, you get to do just about everything. Five Olympics later, I still learn new things everyday. Sportsnet's launch in 1998 and its subsequent designation of soccer as a priority led to my latest... |
