TFC feeling the heat

Dwayne De Rosario. It’s now the dog days of summer and TFC are feeling the heat in more ways than one.
It’s another steamy one in Kansas City which awaits the Reds for Saturday night's match.
A thunderous monsoon swept through the city Friday morning with awesome power, when it passed we were greeted by what I would aptly call jungle weather.
Picture the steamiest day we've had in Toronto this summer and then increase it by half. It has been so hot here this year the Wizards have taken to training at 9am to avoid the heat of the day.
So consider Dwayne DeRosario's situation.
A hot one in Toronto against Motagua Tuesday, another torrid one in Houston for the All Star game Wednesday and then this super heated affair Saturday, followed by another sizzling encounter in Honduras next Tuesday.
Drink plenty of water DeRo.
Had a chance to chat with Wizards rookie Teal Bunbury at training, what a confident, pleasant and well spoken young man he is; even more so than when I chatted with him at the Super draft in January.
His coach Peter Vermes says watch out this kid has it all. He's also coy about his international loyalty. If he's as good as the Wizards say he's good enough for the U.S. team which could spell trouble for Canadian coach Stephen Hart when he eventually decides the time is right to extend an overture.
We also checked out the Wizards new digs which opens in June of next year. Construction is well underway. Anyone attending Saturday night's game will get a good look at it. It’s just a goal kick away from their temporary home, Community America Ballpark.
By the way, it’s Preki night here. The first four thousand fans will receive a Preki figurine in honour of the former legendary K.C. striker.

Twenty-five years in this business means if you're lucky enough to cross paths with the Olympics, you get to do just about everything. Five Olympics later, I still learn new things everyday. Sportsnet's launch in 1998 and its subsequent designation of soccer as a priority led to my latest... |
