Canada's failure to advance at the Gold Cup exposes how much work the program really needs.
I'm not going to write much on Canada's latest failure at the Gold Cup. I'd rather digest this one for a while.
It’s now clear that Canada is actually falling behind on the international stage. Even smaller CONCACAF countries are developing bigger, stronger, faster players than we are these days -- and more of them, too.
As soon as Panama fell behind against Canada and sent out their best players, the game changed. They smoothly shifted up a gear and Canada found themselves on the back foot.
There's plenty of work to do in all areas for Canada. Developing players, making sure all those quality players available to Canada play for Canada and figuring out a way to make home games actual home games are critical to the success of our national team.
And we have a long way to go in all those areas.
Three and out at the Gold Cup without scoring a goal from open play leaves a bad taste in everyone's mouth.
