MILAN, Italy -- Catania's Maxi Lopez is interested in a move to AC Milan, amid reports the Serie A champion will make an offer for the striker when the transfer window opens in January.

Milan is a striker short after Antonio Cassano was sidelined for at least six months when he had heart surgery last week and vice-president Adriano Galliani has said Lopez is one of the options the club is considering.

"I'm flattered, we'll see in January what happens," Lopez told Sky Italia. "I'm trying to stay calm, then if in the future there's the chance to move to one of the most important squads in Europe I would be really happy, but for the moment I'm trying not to think about it.

"I can't but be thankful that a club with the history of AC Milan, with all its champions, have thought of me. But for now, I'm focusing on doing my job here at Catania, then we'll see in January."

Lopez has scored 20 goals in 55 appearances for Catania after joining from Russian side FC Moscow in January 2010.

The 27-year-old Lopez grew up in Argentina but is also eligible to play for Italy.

Catania president Antonino Pulvirenti said Thursday he would consider selling the forward.

"A move to AC Milan is viable," he said. "Obviously we need to sort out all the details, but there's a will to do it. We are absolutely open to it."
