MILAN, Italy -- AC Milan striker Antonio Cassano returned to training Saturday for the first time in over two months following heart surgery.

Cassano had a minor operation at the beginning of November and was expected to miss most of the rest of the season.

The Italy striker was at the team's training session at San Siro, ahead of Sunday's derby against Inter Milan, although he was given individual exercises away from the group.

Cassano was hospitalized after falling ill on the team plane following Milan's 3-2 victory at Roma on Oct. 29.

Along with being good news for Milan, his return will also be welcomed by Italy coach Cesare Prandelli, who hopes to have Cassano fit for the start of the European Championship in June.
