BARCELONA, Spain -- France defender Eric Abidal has signed a 1-year contract extension with European champion Barcelona.
Barcelona did not release financial details of the deal agreed to with the 32-year-old Frenchman, who remains with the club until the close of next season. Barcelona says the deal includes annual renewal options that could see the contract extended through until 2015.
Abidal has been a regular in the team since joining from Lyon in 2007, scoring once from 177 appearances and helping the Spanish and world champions win 13 trophies over that period.
Abidal recovered from a liver tumour to help the Catalan club win its fourth European Cup in May.
