VANCOUVER -- Maribel Dominguez scored a hat trick Friday night and Mexico beat Guatemala 5-0 in CONCACAF Olympic qualifying.
Dominguez netted in the 24th and 44th minutes and added a penalty kick in the 67th as the Mexicans opened their bid to earn a spot at the Summer Games in London.
The 33-year-old captain's performance made her the all-time leader with 17 goals in CONCACAF women's Olympic qualifying.
Marylin Diaz scored in the 12th and Dinora Garza in the 38th as Mexico, ranked No. 21 in the world, proved too strong and too fast for the 85th-ranked Guatemalans.
Mexico faces the Dominican Republic on Sunday before an anticipated rematch with the United States in their final group game on Tuesday. Mexico upset the Americans last year in World Cup qualifying.
