LONDON -- Nigeria defender Taye Taiwo has joined Queens Park Rangers on loan from AC Milan until the end of the season.

The 26 year-old Taiwo, who can also operate in midfield, is the first player to join the Premier League club since Mark Hughes took charge earlier this month.

Hughes says that "to get him now is a fantastic coup and a real statement of intent that we can attract the quality of player that he is."

Taiwo joined AC Milan from Marseille last year, but has only made eight appearances this season.

QPR is two points and two places above the relegation zone.
