LONDON -- Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has had a fresh injury setback, sustaining a stress fracture in his right heel while recovering from a long-term ankle injury.

The England midfielder has not played for his Premier League club this season after injuring the right ankle on international duty in June.

Wilshere, who needed surgery after initially wearing a protective boot, was set to return in early February, but felt pain when running in training last week.

"I have a stress fracture but it is not in the same area as my first injury which has healed very (well) which I am happy about," Wilshere wrote on his Twitter account. "I have developed a stress fracture in the (heel) now and I don't want to put any time scale on it as I do not know how long it will take."

Arsenal's medical team will reassess the injury in around two weeks.

Wilshere will still hope to make England's squad for the European Championship, which starts in June.
