MADRID, Spain — AC Milan has signed goalkeeper Diego Lopez from European champion Real Madrid.

The deal had been expected with Lopez already in Milan for the past two days.

Madrid did not disclose the details of the transfer.

The 32-year-old Lopez played for Madrid for the past season and a half after having previous played for fellow Spanish clubs Sevilla and Villarreal.

His departure clears the way for team captain Iker Casillas and new signing Keylor Navas to share time in Madrid’s goal.

Lopez will now be under the orders of new coach Filippo Inzaghi as Milan seeks to improve on its disappointing eighth-place finish in the Italian league last season.
