LONDON — Arsenal right back Mathieu Debuchy has a badly sprained ankle and it’s unclear how long he will be sidelined.

Manager Arsene Wenger says Debuchy’s injury "doesn’t look good" and more tests will be needed to determine its severity.

The 29-year-old Debuchy landed awkwardly and clutched his left ankle in the second half of Arsenal’s 2-2 draw against Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday.

Arsenal doesn’t have too many backup options in defence, and 19-year-old Calum Chambers came on for the Frenchman after he was carried off on a stretcher.

Debuchy joined Arsenal in the summer as a replacement for Bacary Sagna, who left to play for City.
