BARCELONA, Spain — Barcelona says defender Martin Montoya has agreed to a contract extension that will tie him to the Spanish champion until June 2018.

Montoya joined Barcelona’s first team in 2012 after coming up through its academy.

He has started 16 games this season at right back, where he shares time with Dani Alves.

Barcelona says the 22-year-old Montoya will sign his new contract on Friday.

Montoya’s buyout clause will be 20 million euros ($27.5 million).
