BERLIN — Hertha Berlin has signed Dutch defender John Heitinga on a two-year contract.
The Bundesliga club announced Monday that it had signed Heitinga, who played for relegated Premier League team Fulham last season, on a free transfer.
The 30-year-old defender has played 87 times for the Netherlands but was left out of this year’s World Cup squad.
Hertha general manager Michael Preetz says Heitinga is "an internationally experienced defender from whom our young players in particular will benefit greatly."
