WHAT’s going on?
It’s the quarterfinal round of the CONCACAF Champions League, North American club soccer’s biggest competition.

WHO’s playing?
As is just so happens there are four Major League Soccer teams remaining in the tournament (D.C. United, LA Galaxy, Seattle Sounders and Real Salt Lake) and four Mexican clubs (Queretaro, Club America, Tigres UANL and Santos Laguna).

WHEN and WHERE do the games take place?
The first legs of the quarterfinals take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, with the return matches scheduled for March 1 and 2. See the match schedule below for full details.

HOW does the tournament work?
The 24-team field was divided into eight round-robin groups of three teams. Everybody played each other home and away. The Vancouver Whitecaps made their tournament debut but did not get out of the group stage.

Each of the eight group winners advanced to the quarterfinals where teams will square off in a series of two-legged affairs. Both the semifinals and the final are also two legs.

First leg results:
• Seattle 2, Club America 2
• Queretaro 2, D.C. United 0
• Tigres UANL 2, Real Salt Lake 0
• LA Galaxy 0, Santos Laguna 0

WHY is this tournament important?
The winner of the CONCACAF Champions League advances to the 2016 FIFA Club World Cup in December to be hosted in Japan, where they compete against the top pro teams from Asia, Africa, Europe, Oceania, and South America. Barcelona are the reigning Club World Cup champions.
