MOSCOW — Russian champion CSKA Moscow says it will appeal a UEFA ban that keeps fans from attending Champions League group games this season.
Last week, UEFA forced CSKA to play its next three European home games behind closed doors and banned the Russian club from selling any tickets for its remaining two away group games.
That was punishment for CSKA fans displaying far-right banners and fighting police during a 5-1 loss to AS Roma, the third time UEFA has punished CSKA for the racist behaviour of fans in less than a year.
CSKA chief executive Roman Babaev criticized the UEFA investigation on Thursday in comments to Russian agency R-Sport and said the club would appeal.
