DARMSTADT, Germany — Darmstadt has fired coach Norbert Meier after six straight losses.
A club statement on Monday says sporting director Holger Fach also has been fired.
The decision came one day after Darmstadt’s 2-0 loss to Hamburger SV at home. Five straight Bundesliga defeats have taken the team to one place above the relegation zone, one point ahead of Hamburg and two points above Ingolstadt. Darmstadt had also lost to a fourth-tier team in the German Cup.
Ramon Berndroth, chief of Darmstadt’s youth academy, will take over as interim coach.
Club president Ruediger Fritsch says the team needs "a fresh impulse to snap the negative trend."
Darmstadt was promoted last season and pulled off a surprise by staying in the Bundesliga. But coach Dirk Schuster left for Augsburg at the start of the season and the club’s fortunes have plummeted.
