OTTAWA — The Ottawa Fury has signed former Montreal Impact coach Marc Dos Santos to lead the club when it begins play in the North American Soccer League next season.

Fury president and owner John Pugh made the announcement Thursday. Dos Santos signed a two-year contract.

The 36-year-old will help lay the foundations for the second division club, whose long-term goal is to join Major League Soccer.

"I hope this is the beginning of a great story of success," Dos Santos said in a statement. "The city will embrace this team, I’m sure."

Dos Santos, a Montreal native, has coached in Brazil since he left the Impact in 2011, which was Montreal’s last season in the NASL before it made the jump to MLS.

The Impact won the NASL championship under Dos Santos in 2009.

"He has experienced tremendous success wherever he has coached, in particular with the Impact and most recently in Brazil," Pugh said of his coach.
