DORTMUND, Germany — Germany defender Erik Durm has extended his contract with Borussia Dortmund by two years.
The Bundesliga club says the 22-year-old Durm, who joined the club from Mainz in 2012, signed a new deal through June 2019.
Durm is one of five Dortmund players to have won the World Cup with Germany, the others being Mats Hummels, Roman Weidenfeller, Kevin Grosskreutz and Matthias Ginter.
Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc says "it was obvious to us that we would reward his excellent sporting development and extend his contract long-term."
Dortmund players Marcel Schmelzer, Marco Reus, Sven Bender and Ilkay Gundogan missed out on the World Cup due to injury.
Durm is likely to start Germany’s friendly against Argentina on Wednesday with Hummels and Jerome Boateng both dropping out.
