ZURICH — The head of the English Football Association will face no disciplinary action from FIFA after returning a luxury watch given as a World Cup gift, the international governing body said Tuesday.
FIFA’s ethics investigators in September ordered football officials to return 25,000 Swiss franc ($26,600) watches that were given by the Brazilian federation at the pre-World Cup congress in June.
Despite the October deadline to return his watch, English FA chairman Greg Dyke planned to give the Parmigiani timepiece to a breast cancer charity.
But FIFA announced on Tuesday that Dyke had returned his watch.
"As a consequence, the adjudicatory chamber of the FIFA ethics committee has decided to close the proceedings in respect of a possible breach of the FIFA code of ethics," FIFA said in a statement.
FIFA is yet to release statements on the return of the other 64 watches.
