LONDON — The terror alert in Belgium has prompted the English Premier League to cancel a youth tournament in Belgium to commemorate the spontaneous World War I match between British and German soldiers during World War I.

The annual Truce Tournament was due to take place in Ypres from Dec. 10-13 featuring under-12 teams from England, Belgium, France and Germany.

Premier League director of youth Ged Roddy says "the advice we received from statutory authorities is that the event could only have proceeded with additional security measures put in place."

Amid a continued manhunt for suspects linked to the Paris attacks, the Belgian capital Brussels is under the highest alert level due to what authorities have described as a serious and imminent threat of attack.
