Fernandinho follows Otamendi in signing new deal at Man City

James Sharman and Craig Forrest delve deep into the disastrous transfer situation for Arsenal and Alexis Sanchez, as they look ahead to this weekend in the Premier League.

MANCHESTER, England — Brazil midfielder Fernandinho signed a two-year contract extension with Manchester City on Friday, two days after the Premier League leaders tied Argentina defender Nicolas Otamendi to a new deal.

The 32-year-old Fernandinho’s new contract runs through 2020. He joined City from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2013 and has been integral in the team’s record-breaking start to the Premier League that has left Pep Guardiola’s side 12 points clear with 15 games left.

"With Pep in charge," Fernandinho said, "I feel sure we can win significant silverware and, importantly, we will try to do it playing attractive, attacking football."

Otamendi signed a two-year extension on Wednesday that keeps him at City until 2022.
