ABIDJAN, Cote d’Ivoire — Michel Dussuyer and Henry Kasperczak are on the Ivory Coast Football Federation’s five-man shortlist for new coach of the African champion.
Dussuyer, the former Guinea coach, and Kasperczak, the former Mali boss, have the most experience in African soccer.
The other three were Patrice Neveu, most recently in charge of Mauritania, former Gabon coach Paolo Duarte, and Frederic Antonetti, who has no previous history with African teams.
The Ivorian federation said it would trim the list to three before deciding on a successor for Herve Renard, who led Ivory Coast to the African Cup of Nations title in February.
France’s Dussuyer has also previously worked as an assistant coach with Ivory Coast.
Poland’s Kasperczak was head coach of Ivory Coast in the early 1990s, and guided the team to third place at the 1994 African Cup.
Both Dussuyer and Kasperczak coached at the African Cup this year, when Dussuyer led Guinea to the quarterfinals at the expense of Kasperczak’s Mali when the teams had to be separated by the drawing of lots.
The successful candidate would need to have "good international experience," be able to speak French, and be willing to live in Ivory Coast, the Ivorian federation said.
There was an initial list of 59 coaches interested in the job, the federation said.
