ELCHE, Spain — Goals by Dani Garcia and Raul Albentosa gave Eibar its second win of the season as it defeated Elche 2-0 in the Spanish league on Friday.

A poor clearance reached Garcia who took two steps forward and unleashed a blistering right-foot shot that bounced in off the post, beating Polish goalkeeper Przemyslaw Tyton in the third minute.

“We had that bit of luck that had evaded us in our last two matches of getting to score very early,” said Albentosa. “It’s been a deserved and very well worked victory.”

Elche nearly conceded again in the 16th minute when Mikel Arrobarrena struck a shot that was just cleared for a corner.

Elche had its first attempt on goal in the 25th when Garry Mendes raced down the right and crossed to Ferran Corominas, but the forward missed.

Eibar kept winning corners and Albentosa headed in from one in the 42nd.

“The first goal hit us hard and the second one from a mistake made during a corner kick left us lagging badly, two down at home,” Corominas said. “We tried hard to come back in the second half but weren’t able to.”

Cristian Herrera, who came on in the second half after Corominas was taken off with an injury, shot over the crossbar in the 48th.

Eibar goalkeeper Xabi Irureta made a good stop from a stinging shot in the 88th.

Eibar climbed to fifth place on six points.
