FRANKFURT, Germany — The German Football Federation says Germany’s friendly in Israel in March has been called off at the Israeli federation’s request.

The match was scheduled for March 25 but Israel wants to use the date to play a European Championship qualifier against Belgium. That match had been scheduled for Sept. 8 but UEFA has not approved the match being played in Israel because of the conflict in Gaza.

Israel would now like to play the qualifier on March 25, hoping that the security situation will improve by then and that it can play at home.

World Cup champion Germany is now looking for another opponent to play on March 25.
