Giovinco, Ciman nominated for top MLS player at ESPY awards

Toronto FC forward Sebastian Giovinco and Montreal Impact defender Laurent Ciman have been nominated in the Best MLS Player category at the upcoming ESPY Awards.

Giovinco, was named league MVP and won the Golden Boot as top scorer in Major League Soccer last season. The 29-year-old Italian, nicknamed the Atomic Ant, has 30 goals and 21 assists in 47 MLS games.

Ciman was named MLS Defender of the Year in 2015, his first season in MLS. The 30-year-old has started in 39 games, scoring twice and logging 3,485 minutes, over his MLS career.

Ciman is currently representing Belgium at the 2016 European Championship in France. Giovinco was controversially left off Italy’s squad.

New England forward Kei Kamara, who spent the 2015 season with Columbus, and New York Red Bulls goalkeeper Luis Robles were also nominated.

The award ceremony will take place July 13 in Los Angeles.
