BELGRADE, Serbia — Serbian Police say they have found an unexploded hand grenade at the Red Star stadium in Belgrade ahead of a Europa League qualifier match.

Police say Thursday the "rusty" explosive device was discovered on the roof of one of the stands during a routine control ahead of Red Star’s match against Kairat from Kazakhstan later in the evening.

The bomb has been taken to a safe location for controlled detonation, a police statement says.

Belgrade media says it is likely the grenade has been on the roof for a while and is not linked to tonight’s match.

Serbian fans are known for violent behaviour at soccer venues.
