NEWCASTLE, England — Former Argentina midfielder Jonas Gutierrez could make his first Premier League appearance for Newcastle since overcoming testicular cancer when the team plays Aston Villa on Saturday.
Gutierrez was given the all-clear in November and returned to training the following month.
Newcastle manager John Carver says he is going to bring Gutierrez into the squad and "that’s a huge lift for him, and for everyone else around the club, and certainly for the fans because I know how much they like him."
The 31-year-old Gutierrez hasn’t played for Newcastle since October 2013. He is out of contract at the end of the season and held talks with Argentine side Velez Sarsfield this month.
