MONTREAL — Canada’s national soccer team has another option on defence as Wandrille Lefevre of the Montreal Impact was sworn in as a Canadian citizen on Thursday at a ceremony held at Saputo Stadium.
Lefevre moved to Canada from France when he was a teenager.
"After 11 years here in Montreal and in Canada, I am very happy to say that I have adopted the city as my own," the 25-year-old said. "Today, the country has adopted me in turn."
Lefevre played four seasons at the University of Montreal before joining the Impact’s academy.
The central defender made his MLS debut in 2013. He has played 25 MLS games, picking up a goal and two assists. His goal was scored on June 13 against New York City.
By becoming a citizen, he is eligible to play for Canada should he ever be selected.
