FLORENCE, Italy — Italy midfielder Claudio Marchisio has torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and will likely be out for six-to-eight months.
The injury occurred during a training session with the national team, which visits Bulgaria on Saturday for a European Championship qualifier.
Marchisio’s injury is the latest in a series of physical problems for Juventus’ midfield. Passing standout Andrea Pirlo has been out for a month with a torn leg muscle and France international Paul Pogba is out for two months after tearing a muscle in his right thigh in the Champions League this month.
Italy fullback Manuel Pasqual and winger Alessandro Florenzi will also miss the Bulgaria match with minor injuries.
