TURIN, Italy — A month after guiding Juventus to an unexpected spot in the Champions League final, coach Massimiliano Allegri has had his contract with Juventus extended through 2017.

Juventus made the announcement Monday, while also extending the contract of midfielder Claudio Marchisio through 2020.

The announcements came shortly after Andrea Pirlo’s move to New York City FC was officialized.

While financial details were not disclosed, the Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Allegri’s deal boosts his salary from 2.5 million euros ($2.75 million) to 3.5 million euros ($3.85 million) per season.

That makes Allegri the second-highest paid coach in Serie A after Inter Milan’s Roberto Mancini, who will earn 4 million euros ($4.4 million) for the next two seasons.

Allegri was an unpopular choice to replace Antonio Conte a year ago.
