LILLE, France — Lille beat fellow struggler Montpellier 2-0 to record only its second win in nine Ligue 1 matches on Friday.

Lille scored in controversial circumstances two minutes from halftime when Sofiane Boufal converted a spot kick after he was adjudged to have been tripped as he ran into the penalty area. Television replays showed the Lille midfielder appeared to have dived.

Djibril Sidibe doubled Lille’s lead shortly after the hour with a superb finish into the far side of the net.

Montpellier was offered a way back into the match when Sebastien Corchia nudged Quentin Cornette in the back. Ryad Boudebouz’s penalty crashed off the left post and the Algeria international fired in the rebound but it was disallowed as no other player had touched the ball.
