Lyon open campaign with 2-0 win over Rennes

LYON, France — A depleted Lyon opened its French league campaign with a 2-0 win over Rennes on Sunday.

Lyon substitute Steed Malbranque put the hosts ahead with a curling shot in the 64th minute and striker Alexandre Lacazette converted a penalty in the 73rd.

Lyon played without Clement Grenier, Yoann Gourcuff, Gueida Fofana, Mouhamadou Dabo, Milan Bisevac and Henri Bedimo, all injured, while Bakary Kone was suspended.

Monaco plays Lorient later Sunday.

On Saturday, it was: Bastia 3, Marseille 3; Evian 0, Caen 3; Guingamp 0, Saint-Etienne 2; Lille 0, Metz 0; Montpellier 0, Bordeaux 1; Nantes 1, Lens 0; and Nice 3, Toulouse 2.

Defending champion Paris Saint-Germain drew 2-2 with Reims on Friday.
